Thor Nelson manages the design and placemaking for key pedestrian streets and spaces for the District of Columbia. He has over 15 years of architecture and urban design experience including leading the master planning efforts for Baltimore’s waterfronts and rewriting of Washington DC’s Comprehensive Plan Urban Design Element to bring a greater focus on planning that supports inclusion, livability, and public life.  Thor brings a deep level of knowledge about how people use and interact in space to his work and is constantly examining and testing ideas for how the city can be redesigned to adapt to new challenges. Thor currently teaches graduate level urban design and architecture at Catholic University in Washington, DC. He is a Next City Vanguard, and most recently was a Public Life Fellow at the Gehl Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark where he researched issues of designing for diversity in public spaces.
