Eric van der Kooij is senior strategic adviser on urban planning for the City of Amsterdam. He is working for the Department of Urban Planning and Sustainability. As is director for Spatial Quality he is involved in major urban development and design of public spaces. Furthermore his team explores and initiates new urban strategies, use of serious gaming and scenario planning, challenges and urban initiatives in the context of the urban and metropolitan ambitions of the city of Amsterdam. He has expertise on urban design and scenario planning, spatial economics, traffic design, metropolitan landscapes, water management and sustainability.

He graduated cum laude in Delft (1991) as an urban designer en has taught at several schools and universities in the Netherlands. From 1991 until 2005 he has been working as an Assistant Professor at the Delft University of Technology in the field of Landscape architecture. He is author of several publications on parks and public space design, contemporary estates and land houses and methods on research and design in landscape architecture.
