7 July 2017 - London’s Housing Crisis: In the news #002

7 July 2017

• According to Ben Webster in the Times if London copied Paris and replaced existing buildings with low-rise five storey buildings it could create half a million more homes.
• The Campaign to Protect Rural England report states that low-rise development over schools and commercial buildings would help save the green belt and protected land.
• The report states that there is enough "air space" above existing one and two storey buildings in London to provide at least 500,000 new homes.
• The report urges councils to focus on brownfield sites before moving onto greenfield land. The only ones benefiting from greenfield development are landowners and big housebuilders.
